4. Domain of Seven Valleys The Domain of Seven Valleys is a project that was initiated in 2008 by Alain O'Reilly, “father” of eco-tourism. Located in Nouvelle France, Domaine des Sept Vallées is Alain's latest project and encompasses approximately four thousand hectares of land. It is also the largest hunting territory on the island and offers shelder to two thousand five hundred Java deer and one thousand wild boar, twenty five to thirty percent of which must be poached annually to maintain the health and vitality of the others. After the ecstasy of the chase, you can look forward to a relaxing party in the evening with a large camp fire, deer roasting on a spit, fine wine and beer! An activity aimed specifically at children, aged six to fourteen, is the Holiday Camp, which is run in association with C.V.L. (Centre de Vacances & de Loisirs). Children spend four days in the bush with experienced teachers, and are taught things such as orientation, traditional fishing, raft building and archery. There is a fabulous restaurant at the Domaine des Sept Vallées called “La Vieille Cabane” and all the ingredients used are grown or raised on the estate and are one hundred percent organic. The menu includes, venison, boar, palm heart, chicken, guinea fowl, duck, various fruits and vegetables and fish. La Vieille Cabane is also a guest house with a dormitory for twenty. There are also four caravans at a “secret basin” for those who want to live in the midst of nature. A spa is also planned for those who wish to merely relax and tree houses are to be built to give people a taste of a really different way of living, think along the lines of Tarzan.
Mountain climbing or exploring nature through forests, plants or endemic flowers. It is a pleasure to enjoy the spectacular beauty of waterfalls or live an exciting adventure by going down the waterfalls.
Green Mauritius is now discovered at different rhythm . Take breathtaking views on foot, on bike or kayak; or go trekking through fields, rivers and forests on all terrain quad bikes and discover the magnificent views of the south-eastern coastal regions. Adventure also means sharing the pleasures of fair game culling in the south-east where many stags, does and boars roam freely on grounds of 900 hectares, covered with tropical forests. 'La Vallee de Ferney' is an ecotourism site with one of the remaining Mauritian endemic forests, The Ferney Valley forest is known to shelter a variety of endemic and native species of Mauritius among which some are in extreme danger of extinction, like the Mauritius Kestrel, one of the world's rarest birds. The CIEL Group has decided in 2006, to designate the Ferney Valley a conservation zone pf more than 200 hectares in which a conservation program will be carried out to protect the endemic and native plants.Open to the public since end 2006, the site offers hiking circuits, by guides with an information centre at the foot of the Valley to allow visitors to get acquainted with the fauna and flora of the region. |
