Costa Romantica in Mauritius

The arrival of a number of passengers by cruises during the last three years have been remarkable, 6 295 during 2006/2007, 12 874 during 2007/2008 representing an increase of 105 % and 26 154 during the period of 2008/2009, which represents an increase of 103 %. During the same period, the number of cruise ships has doubled from 14 to 29. Up till now, the cruise ships neared the Quays A and D amongst other ships. It is evident that with a growth in the number of cruise ships, there was a necessity to erect a modern terminal in order to offer a better service and more security to passengers, one of the reasons why Port Louis has been chosen where a new terminal for costa cruise will be built.

This new terminal will enable to welcome some forty cruise ships annually and is geared to the development of a new type of tourist attraction. Some 25 cruise ships have neared the port in 2009 with over more than 30,000 passengers on board. These tourists stayed in Mauritius for a minimum of 2 to 3 days before setting sail to another destination. This year, we are awaiting some 30 cruise ships in the port. There will be about 35,000 tourists on board.
