Airports of Mauritius

Located in the south east of the island, the facility, formerly known as Plaisance Airport, was initially built for military purposes during the Second World War by the British.

In order to accommodate constant civil traffic growth, a new terminal, not too far from the old building, was commissioned in 1987 under the name of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport.

Airports of Mauritius Co Ltd (AML) was set up in 1999. AML, which employs 380 people, caters for some 2 million passengers, both in-coming and out-going per year.

The ground floor of the terminal is now reserved to arrivals while the first floor accommodates departing passengers.

Traveling passengers and the general public are advised to avoid carrying the undermentioned listed items in the hand luggage. If found during security screening on departing passengers at the airport, these items will be removed.

• Toy or replica guns (plastic or metal)
• Catapults
• Household Cuttery
• Knives with blades of any length
• Razor blades
• Tradesman tool
• Scissors of any size
