It has gone through an incredible phase of improvement with the result that new motorways and have been constructed and the conditions of present roads have been upgraded. In Mauritius, road is the only means of transportation of goods and passengers. The road network has reached approximately 1900 kilometers with about 90% roads with pavements. The main means of road transport in Mauritius is bus with an extensive network service. About one third of the total bus service in the country is provided by the National Transport Corporation (NTC), followed by the United Bus Service (UBS), Triolet Bus Service (TBS) and the Rose Hill Transport (RHT). There are also other individual buses providing their services.The road transport in Mauritius has improved immensely and more modern types of buses have come up with better carrying capacity, comfort, speed and reliability.Taxi car is the second means of road transport in Mauritius. The taxi fares are set by law and the taxis provide their service to almost all locations throughout the island. Other means of road transport is the contract car, owned by private company. The contract cars are used mostly by the tourists.
